Make a Kids Quilt from Bed Sheets

I love the look and feel of homemade quilts but I don't have the know how or time to put together an actual quilt so..... while at the store i came across the most adorable Jake and the Neverland Pirate sheets. (Target) I bought them and when I showed them to my mom she suggested making a blanket out of them.

So away we went. I ended up using the bottom fitted sheet on the bed. The top sheet I used for the top of the blanket, then found a sandy yellow that I liked at Walmart. You can buy top and bottom sheets separately there.

We came home, ironed both of the top sheets to get the creases out so we'd have a little extra fabric, pinned them together with some batting in between, did a quick edge on the sewing machine, and then tied it with some cream yarn.

As you can see from the above picture the little guy loves it! It was so much easier that putting together quilt blocks. They had some adorable little girl sheets at Target that would be so cute for a bed spread. There are quite a few options.

A few pictures of the crew helping tie the quilt/blanket.

Mason Gift in a Jar

Simplicity. Isn't that what makes life a little bit easier. A DIY mason jar gift is the way to go when you want something that looks nice. Once you have made your jar it can be stuffed with sweets, hot chocolate mix, cookie dough mix, or anything that you'd like. I stuffed mine with letter writing supplies.

Kids will love decorating the outside of a jar and placing their gifts inside. Simply find a jar that you'd like to use. Clean it out.  Add shapes to the outside with a bit of modge  podge or elmers glue. Add your gifts to the inside and a tag around the top and you are ready to go!

DIY Holiday Mugs

I love DIY projects that are somewhat easy, don't require a large mess, and work for the most part. I made these and gave them to a good friend but kids could do them for Grandparents, or cousins, or a parent. They are fairly easy and even with little hands making "mistakes" that is what makes DIY gifts the best are the kid touches that you can't get from a store bought gift.

Directions:
Simply find the mug you would like to use. Find some stickers. Use letters for initials, or use any type of sticker that will leave an interesting outline. Place the stickers on the mug and color around them or use a pattern. Peel the stickers off. Bake your mugs at 350 degrees for 30 minutes to set the ink. And you are done.

As you can see my markers bled a little bit under the stickers but I still liked the way they turned out.

12 Coolest Toys on the Planet

While looking for gift ideas for nieces and nephews I came across the Uber Review and their 12 coolest Toys of the Year.http://www.uberreview.com/2007/11/the-top-12-coolest-toys-on-the-planet.htm Just when I was beginning to think that video games were taking all of the fame these made the list. Some are a bit pricey but maybe they'll give you ideas of something you could do on a smaller scale. From the look of some of them you might have a hard time prying Dad away from them long enough to let Jr. try them out.

The only one I have semi experience with is the Lego T-Rex. I used a robotic T-Rex several years ago for an elaborate Birthday Party and bit surprise the kids LOVED IT. They were mesmerized that the robot could move, walk toward them, and roar. I'm not sure if the one featured here roars, but it looks like it moves and you get to build it! A little boys dream.

Anyhow... check out the list. Hope you find it as interesting as I did!
