Make a Kids Quilt from Bed Sheets

I love the look and feel of homemade quilts but I don't have the know how or time to put together an actual quilt so..... while at the store i came across the most adorable Jake and the Neverland Pirate sheets. (Target) I bought them and when I showed them to my mom she suggested making a blanket out of them.

So away we went. I ended up using the bottom fitted sheet on the bed. The top sheet I used for the top of the blanket, then found a sandy yellow that I liked at Walmart. You can buy top and bottom sheets separately there.

We came home, ironed both of the top sheets to get the creases out so we'd have a little extra fabric, pinned them together with some batting in between, did a quick edge on the sewing machine, and then tied it with some cream yarn.

As you can see from the above picture the little guy loves it! It was so much easier that putting together quilt blocks. They had some adorable little girl sheets at Target that would be so cute for a bed spread. There are quite a few options.

DIY Dinosaur Felt Room Decor

Dinos Dinos Dinos

Not really sure what you would use this for other then decor. I was trying to theme a little boys room with dinosaur stuff and did not want to spend much money. I had some felt and some stencils so I made some stuffed dinosaurs, sewed them together, added a ribbon, and hung them on a hanger. You could leave them single and give to a child to play with as small stuffed dinosaurs if you wanted. If you made them a little bigger they would be adorable pillows. I thought of doing that but have not got to it yet. We'll see if it happens or not.

Either way here are the instructions for what I did.
Needed Supplies:
  • Colored Felt of your choice
  • Colored Embroidery Floss of your choice
  • Poly fill
  • Small piece of ribbon
  • Scissors, Needle, Pen

Directions:
  • Trace desired stencil on fabric and trace two of them one for front and one for back. (If you do not have a stencil print a picture cut that out and use that as a stencil.)
  • Cut out fabric
  • Begin sewing the pieces together. If you are talented with a sewing machine do it that way. I don't have a sewing machine so I did these by hand with embroidery floss/string. Place one over the other, thread your needle, use a simple stitch along the outside.
  • Stitch all along the outside until you have just a small hole left.
  • Fill with Poly Fill
  • Stitch Closed
  • When all three are completed use a small stitch to sew them together as you would like.
  • Add loop of ribbon at the top.
  • Hang where you would like.

DIY Dinosaur Mobile

Little Dinos

There are so many cute baby mobiles out and about but they are SO expensive. Instead of spending major cash why not make your own. Sure it won't necessarily turn on its own but it will definitely do the trick for your little one.
DIY Dinosaur Mobile for Child's Room

Needed Supplies:
2 large paint sticks
Fish line
Paper of choice
String or ribbon
hot glue and glue gun
Command Hook

Directions:
  • Paint the paint sticks desired color and glue them together in a "t" shape.

  • Using your paper find a stencil or print out of a shape you would like to use and trace as many as you'd like on your scapbook paper and cut out the shapes.

  • Take a long piece of fishing line and glue the shapes to the line with a little bit of space in between.

  • Make 5 strings of shapes. One for each end of the stick and one for the middle. Be sure and leave extra string at the top and bottom of your shapes. It is easier to cut off extra when you are done then to try and add more if needed.

  • Once your strings are done secure them to your paint sticks.

  • Add a ribbon to the top of your mobile to attach it to the hook on the ceiling.

  • Place your command hook on the ceiling where ever you would like it and hang your mobile. Command hooks are the best for this as they will not leave a hole in your ceiling and as soon as you are done with the mobile you can take the hook off and use it somewhere else.

Good luck. I'd love to see your finished product if you attempt to make your own! Really easy and turned out great for what it is!

Boy Birthday Banner

Boy Birthday Banner

Simple is best. That has always been my philosophy anyway. It seems like the more things you add to something the worse it looks. My normal rule of thumb is less is more. This banner could be made to say "Happy Birthday" "Congratulations" or just a name as seen below. Cut triangle shapes or any shape you'd like to use for your base pieces. Then using a stencil, or print the letters of you choice from the computer and cut out and trace them, or simply use your own handwriting if you like. Make your letters and then add your accents. This one turned out well because of the switching back and forth of colors. Be creative and do what works best for you.

DIY Modge Podge Pirate Dresser Update

I have tried to use Modge Podge in the past and failed terribly so when I was given a dresser and saw some creative things online I thought I would give it a try one more time. After several attempts at finding the right paper to cover the dresser I was able to find some pirate drawings. I measured and cut and Modge Podged my little heart out. As I'm still learning there are some places where the paper is not as smooth as I would like it but overall it turned out ok.

If you are brave enough to try something similar I just recommend using a heavy enough paper. Otherwise it is more difficult. Take a look at the pics and let me know what you think. My next undertaking is a somewhat matching side table. We'll see how that goes.

  • Find your paper

  • Clean your surface

  • Take off knobs if applicable

  • Put down a layer of Modge Podge

  • Carefully place paper and smooth with hands to get bumps out

  • Add another layer of Modge Podge

  • Let dry

  • Add as many layers of Modge Podge as you would like for the look you are going for

  • Finished.

  • I spray painted the same knobs black and put them back on so it looked more "Pirate-ish"

Animal Footprint Decor

Animal Prints

Just a quick idea for the day. Animal footprints for birthday party decor or for a child's bedroom. These prints were simply traced and cut out from  black card stock.

Find the prints you want and either draw and trace them on the black paper or print them from your computer and then cut out and trace and cut out again. Use any type of tape or glue dots to get them to stick to your walls. Stagger the prints so it looks like the animal actually walked there. The little circles are supposed to be fairy footprints.

Use all different sizes and all different types of prints for a forest look.
You could also use this for an activity at a birthday party. Have the kids "find" certain tracks around your home or yard and see if they can identify what animal it was.
